Baker Buzz

Hi I'm Victoria and loooooove to bake. This blog will feature some of my favorite recipes and tips for making even the hardest recipes easy! Let's start with this recipe for an AWESOME pie that I made the other day. It's an egg custard pie.  It tastes like a Hispanic food that my family makes called flan. I always believe that making a homemade crust is best tasting. Of course you don't have to if you don't want to. Please note these are not my recipes just slightly tweaked.

Ingredients
Filling
3 eggs
1 can (12 fluid ounces) evaporated milk
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all purpose flour
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vanilla
Crust
1 and 1/4 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter chilled (diced if wanted)
1/4 cup ice water
1 teaspoon vanilla

In no specific order mix all ingredients together in a largish bowl. The pour mixture into a saucepan over medium heat. Once butter is mostly melted set aside. Start on the crust. Mix the flour and salt together. Then prepare a cup of ice water and add vanilla to the water. Use your fingers to mash the butter into the flour/salt mixture until the mixture resembles crumbs. Pour the water/vanilla mixture into the crumbly dough stuff. DO NOT POUR IN THE ICE. ;) Knead the dough until it sticks together. Then wrap in plastic wrap and put into the fridge for half an hour. Take it out and roll it out into a circle and place in a pie pan. Use a knife to cut off any excess dough. Give the filling a quick mix to get the skin off and pour into the crust. Bake the whole thing at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until the top is browned. Tastes awesome hot or cold. Enjoy!
